Coronal Mass Ejections

Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been the subject of a particularly active research community over recent years and, with the advent of IHY and of the new STEREO and Hinode missions, in addition to SOHO, CME research has taken centre stage in a new international effort. Two areas of CME research will be touched on here. First, the CME onset. What are the key issues, and how can the advances in studies of phenomena such as dimming take us any further? Second, with the new STEREO observations, it is important to look at the propagation into the heliosphere. How does a CME relate to an ICME? What do the new images tell us about the CME phenomenon?
